Liverpool have some important fixtures coming up in the Premier League, which could put them in a strong position to land a top-four finish after a difficult first half of the season
Liverpool are back in the top four of the Premier League – albeit perhaps temporarily depending on results elsewhere – after picking up a win over bottom side Wolves at Anfield. A quickfire double saw Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz give the Reds a two-goal lead just before the break.
While Arne Slot would’ve hoped his side would cruise through the second half, it wasn’t quite that simple, as Santiago Bueno’s goal after half-time for the visitors made things tense. While Liverpool have looked frail after conceding before, they managed to hold out and pick up an important three points.
With the tide turning for the Reds, there is now plenty of hope that the team can land a top-four finish this season with Champions League qualification as a minimum.
There are still some important games ahead, however, with a tight race for that fourth spot, as the top three have created a gap to those below.
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are in the battle for that place, so with that said, here’s a look at the next five fixtures for Liverpool compared to their rivals.

Verdict: Liverpool’s resilience will be tested over the next five league games, all of which now come in the New Year.
Leeds are in some good form and caused plenty of problems for Slot and his side, after rescuing a dramatic 3-3 draw in the last meeting just a few weeks ago.
The likes of Fulham, Burnley and Bournemouth have all been in poor form, which could open up an opportunity to pick up points. Arsenal away will provide a tough test, however, given their quality at the top of the division.
With how thick and fast the fixtures are coming, there are opportunities for Liverpool, but they will have to take them over the next five games.

Chelsea’s next five Premier League fixtures
- Aston Villa (H) – December 27
- Bournemouth (H) – December 30
- Man City (A) – January 4
- Fulham (A) – January 7
- Brentford (H) – January 17
Verdict: Chelsea have a few awkward fixtures, with two of the top three coming up when they take on Aston Villa and Manchester City. Outside of that, matches with Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford could be ideal, while they spend the next few weeks just in London with little travelling, only having to go away to Manchester City outside of the capital.

Verdict: Manchester United are looking to return to the Champions League, but they face some tough tests in the weeks ahead. While Wolves and Burnley may be favourable fixtures, the likes of Leeds, Man City and Arsenal are all rivalries for the side, which could make it a challenge.
