Antoine Semenyo could be the next Liverpool signing, with the Bournemouth man tipped to make the move to Anfield during the January transfer window
Liverpool have moved above Manchester City in the race to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo – because Pep Guardiola’s side need to sell a ‘marquee player’ before they can make a move.
The Reds have been long linked with a move for the Ghana international, who has starred in the Premier League since he joined the Cherries from Bristol City in January 2023.
But, this season, Semenyo has taken his game to the next level. Indeed, the ex-Sunderland man has still scored six times and provided three assists in 14 league games this season.

Although Semenyo has hit a little bit of drought of late – failing to net in each of his last seven top-flight appearances – but he has still stood out for Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola.
Alongside Liverpool, City have been tipped to sign the 25-year-old, who has four-and-a-half years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium. However, according to reports via Yahoo SportsCity will have to sell a ‘marquee player’ if they are to bring Semenyo to Manchester during the January transfer window.
It’s said that, due to City needing to sell someone, Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue for Semenyo. The Reds are expected to look at signing a left-sided attacker next month, after they failed to replaced Luis Diaz, who made the £65million move to Bayern Munich in the summer.
Semenyo is said to fit the bill, with the London-born sensation having a £65m release clause in his contract. He also won’t depart for the Africa Cup of Nations, as Ghana failed to qualify.
He could prove to be the perfect addition to Liverpool’s front line amid the uncertainty around Mohamed Salah’s future, after the Egyptian launched a scathing attack on the club and Arne Slot on Saturday.
In the mixed zone following the Reds’ 3-3 draw at Leeds, Salah told reporters: “I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.
“I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus.
“That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will.
“It (the situation) is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don’t get it. It’s like I’m being thrown more under the bus. I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club.
“I don’t have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone but I earned my position. It’s football. It is what it is.”
Salah was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the last year before reaching an agreement to stay at Anfield back in April. Following his most recent comments, it looks likely that those links will reignite ahead of the January transfer window. That could allow Liverpool to move quickly if they do wish to raise more funds to sign Semenyo.
