La Liga result as Los Blancos stunned by two magical Williot Swedberg goals, Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras sent off

NINE-MAN REAL STUNNED BY CELTA

Real Madrid versus Celta Vigo descended into chaos in the closing minutes, as the home side, already down a player and losing by one, had another man sent off and conceded a second goal in injury time.

The Galician side had stood up to everything their superstar opponents had to throw at them, throwing it right back and delivering a first victory at the Bernabeu for 19 years. Robustness and discipline at the back was matched by the composure and class of half-time substitute Williot Swedberg, who scored both Celta’s goals with the coolest of finishes.

Real were unable to reproduce the speed or the ingenuity they showed on Wednesday in Bilbao, with Celta set up to counter, and take advantage of Real’s high line. On multiple occasions Pablo Duran was put through with a long range pass, but only one of those culminated in a shot on target and forced a save from Thibaut Courtois. The half-time scoreline showed them to be the equals of the home side.

Real came out for the second period looking to pile on the pressure and force the breakthrough, but after absorbing more of the same, it was Celta who broke the deadlock on 53 minutes. Playmaker Bryan Zaragoza beckoned the ball down the left and lofted it across to Swedberg who responded with the simplest of flicks to find the bottom right corner, beyond the outstretched hands of Thibaut Courtois.

An uphill task for Real became a mountain 10 minutes later when Fran Garcia was carded twice in as many minutes. The referee had no doubt in giving the player his marching orders.

The dying embers of the match descended into madness, with Alvaro Carreras talking himself into two yellow cards. The extra space on the pitch and desperation of Real created one last chance for Celta, who passed the ball up to the Madrid box, with Swedberg slotting home his second from a smooth Iago Aspas through ball, to put the match to bed.

Having hoped to go within one point of Barca, Real end the weekend four points behind the leaders.
