Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the early frontrunner to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United with key figures at the club also keen on moving for Roberto De Zerbi, the Telegraph reports.
Monday’s shock sacking has resulted in handful of managers being linked with the vacancy, including Porto’s Francesco Farioli, while Glasner is not the only Premier League manager in contention.
The Telegraph adds: “Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, who have both also been spoken to in the past. Silva and Iraola, like Crystal Palace manager Glasner, are out-of-contract in the summer.

“United are highly unlikely to show interest in Enzo Maresca, who left Chelsea last week.

“The decision to go for a coach such as Glasner or one like De Zerbi is at the heart of United’s dilemma around the kind of football they want to play. Glasner is more counter-attacking; De Zerbi wants his teams to dominate the ball.

“The United hierarchy are certainly huge admirers of the work Glasner has done at Palace where his current contract expires at the end of the season.”

Carrick for interim?

United will not look to make a permanent appointment until the summer, paving the way for Michael Carrick to take charge on an interim basis until the end of the season, The i Paper reports.

Carrick is among the leading contenders to take temporary charge at his former club, having not managed since leaving Middlesbrough in the summer.

The i Paper adds: “It is unclear at this stage whether Carrick would be interested in the role, but United are expected to make an approach in the coming days.

“The list of other options is still being drawn up, but Carrick is currently understood to be a frontrunner. There is faith that an interim boss can still steer the club back into the Champions League next season, given United are sixth in the Premier League standings, level on points with Chelsea in fifth.”

Fulham braced for Silva approach

The Sun, meanwhile, leads on United’s potential pursuit for Marco Silva, who is yet to respond to a contract offer from Fulham two months ago. Silva, as it stands, will be a free agent in the summer.

The Sun adds: “Silva, 48, is reluctant to talk openly about his future plans and regularly rebuffs the topic, adding he will go public with news when there is some.

“But he has said that signing up for a contract extension at Fulham is about more than just wages for him.

“He wants to see if the club matches his ambitions on and off the pitch.”

Man City increase Guehi interest

Elsewhere, Manchester City are looking into the possibility of signing Marc Guehi this month after Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias were injured in the draw with Chelsea on Sunday, the Daily Mail reports.

Guehi almost joined Liverpool in the summer and, though the Reds retain an interest, they had hoped to sign the England international for free once his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Mail adds: “An offer now would give Palace the chance to make money on their captain.

“Guehi is leaving Palace in the summer and City have decided they want to be part of the conversation for the England international.

“They believe they can beat rivals to Guehi if they go in hard now – with a view that the extra cost would be outweighed by the rewards if he can make a difference to their Premier League title challenge.”
