The Liverpool forward was on the scoresheet on Monday as Egypt got off to the perfect start in the group stage of the competition.
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has sent a message to Mohamed Salah following his return to the scoresheet. The Liverpool man found the net on Monday as he scored a 91st minute winner in Egypt’s 2-1 Africa Cup of Nations victory over Zimbabwe.
The win got Egypt off to the perfect start, and saw them come from behind to take all three points from the match. The goal was Salah’s first since the start of November, when he netted in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
After the game, Salah continued his tradition of sharing an image of himself and other goalscorers on his Instagram account. He therefore posted a picture of himself and Man City’s Omar Marmoush.

That prompted a reply from Salah’s Premier League rival and Marmoush’s City teammate Erling Haaland. The striker wrote: “Salam Brusjans”, which translates as ‘peace brothers’, with a thumbs up emoji.
Salah joined up with the Egypt team just a matter of days after a bombshell interview that put doubt over his future at Liverpool. After being left out of the squad in the Champions League, the forward did make a substitute appearance vs Brighton before going away on international duty.
Ahead of Egypt’s opening game against Zimbabwe, Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has given an exciting view on the situation and Salah’s form so far this season. “Whenever Salah’s performances dip with his club, he regains his strength with the national team and becomes even better, whether by contributing goals or scoring himself,” he said.
“Then he returns to his club even stronger.
“Salah’s morale in training is very high, as if he were just starting out with the national team, and I believe he will have a great tournament with his country I feel his motivation is very, very strong. Salah is an icon and will remain so. He is one of the best players in the world, and I support him in everything he does.
“I don’t consider what happened to him to be a crisis. These things often happen between players and coaches.
“We’ve been in contact with him by phone from the beginning, and I met with him when he joined the national team camp. His focus is entirely on the tournament.”
The Pharaohs are back in action on Boxing Day when they take on South Africa in the group stage game. They then play Angola in the final group game on Monday, 29 December (4pm kick-off).
Liverpool, meanwhile are back in action on Saturday, 27 December (3pm kick-off) when they take on bottom side Wolves at Anfield. The visitors are yet to win in the Premier League so far this season.
