Alexander Isak had to leave the game injured after scoring Liverpool’s first goal in their 2-1 Premier League win against Tottenham on Saturday evening
Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory over Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday but were dealt a blow when Alexander Isak was forced off due to injury. The Swedish forward was caught by a late sliding challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven as he netted his team’s opening goal.
The Reds have somewhat bounced back from a poor run and are now unbeaten in their last five top-tier matches. They’ve now secured back-to-back wins thanks to their triumph in north London.
Xavi Simons was sent off in the first half before Isak was brought on and played through to put Arne Slot’s team ahead. But as he scored, Van de Ven’s follow-through twisted his leg and Isak was unable to celebrate the match’s first goal due to the pain.

Liverpool’s record signing received treatment before limping off and he underwent surgery for an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture on Monday. No date has been placed on his return by the club but a former Premier League player has provided an estimated timeline for his recovery as The ECHO brings you all the latest news from Anfield.
Suggested injury timeline for Alexander Isak
The Swedish star, who only joined Liverpool this summer for a staggering record £120million, had already been struggling with fitness and injury issues prior to the match against Tottenham.
An update on Isak’s injury was issued on Monday night after the striker underwent surgery on a leg fracture. The club have not put a timeframe on when Isak could return, however he is expected to be out of action for at least a number of months. But former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has gone a step further.
Speaking on talkSPORThe expressed his belief that fans won’t see the 26-year-old back on the pitch this season after going off in his team’s win.
“I don’t think Isak plays again this season,” Agbonlahor stated. “I just looked at the injury and I’ve seen that happen before, where his leg got tangled. That’s a broken leg that is.”
The ex-Villa player also cautioned that recovering from such an injury isn’t straightforward. He added: “That’s a long time out. You don’t always come back the same either.”

Agbonlahor also suggested that Liverpool should now set their sights on a specific Premier League star in January to compensate for the loss of Isak’s goal-scoring prowess. He continued: “I think now Liverpool might join the race for Antoine Semenyo.
“There’s talk about Man United, Man City. I don’t know why he’d go to Manchester United. Ridiculous take. If I’m him, I’m saying, ‘Why even message me?'”
Backing up Agbonlahor’s suggestion, The Telegraph reports that Slot’s team may now trigger Bournemouth forward’s £65m release clause due to Isak’s injury.
The report also indicates that both Manchester United and Manchester City are showing interest in the Ghana international, whose release clause is believed to expire on January 10.
