Isak injury aids Man Utd attempts to sign Semenyo

After the biggest expenditure ever by a Premier League club in the summer transfer window, Liverpool are set to spend in January too and had reportedly been targeting Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.

However, with The Reds concerned about the extent of the injury £125 million signing Alexander Isak sustained against Tottenham Hotspur, The Telegraph believes Liverpool could re-allocate those funds to signing a centre-forward instead.

If that happens, Manchester United would become the favourites to sign Semenyo, with Manchester City the only other top contenders.

The paper reports: “Liverpool were already poised to dip into the transfer market prior to Isak’s injury. They have been actively pursuing Antoine Semenyo for months, but Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be increasingly well-placed to secure Bournemouth’s versatile winger next month.

“Should Isak’s injury prove serious, Liverpool may consider a pivot to other options with the cash that was available to trigger Semenyo’s exit clause.

“Liverpool, however, are unwilling to speculate on the potential implications for Isak until a full assessment of all medical tests has been completed.”

Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi is being chased by both Manchester United and Arsenal thanks in large part to the 23-year-old’s impressive UEFA Champions League performances, but it is off-field headlines that have been dogging Adeyemi more recently.
Last month, Adeyemi was fined €450,000 (£394,000) for possessing two illegal weapons (a knuckleduster and a taser) and issued an apology over the incident. And his eagerness for a move away from Signal Iduna Park has not gone down well with the club, with Adeyemi expressing a preference for Arsenal over The Red Devils.

And the Mirror reports his wallet is set to take another hit after he angrily walked straight down the tunnel when he was substituted against Borussia Monchengladbach.

“I told him: He is not going to the locker room, he’s sitting there,” Dormund sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Sky Germany, via The Mirror.

“The substitution was totally justified. Karim did not play well. He will be punished for it. I do not want to see that reaction and neither does the coach or anyone else. It is not right, and Karim knows that too.

“We have discussed this issue intensively with the team in recent weeks. If a player is unhappy, he can express it in the locker room or in the next day’s training session.”

West Ham plotting raid for Strand Larsen

With West Ham United set to ship Niclas Fullkrug off to Serie A on loan, The Hammers are looking for a replacement striker and could kill two birds with one stone by stealing one from a relegation rival. They are targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The Norwegian was sensational in the West Midlands on loan last season, netting 14 Premier League goals, but has scored just once in the league since moving to Wolves permanently in the summer.

The Athletic reports: “The east London club are looking to strengthen their attack, especially amid talks to allow fellow striker Niclas Fullkrug to join AC Milan on loan.

“Their enquiries over Strand Larsen are for a permanent transfer, although the situation is at an early stage and he also has other suitors.

“Wolves rejected offers from Newcastle United last summer before securing the Norway international to a new contract, which committed him until June 2030 with an option to extend by 12 months.”

Feyenoord’s 22-year-old midfielder Luciano Valente is the latest player to be linked with Newcastle United as they hunt a midfielder in the January transfer window.

Valente only joined The Club on the Meuse from Groningen in the summer but has already impressed enough that The Shields Gazette reports Newcastle have sent scouts to monitor him, with fellow Eredivisie star Kees Smit and Ligue 1 pair Lamine Camara and Kevin Danois also on The Magpies’ radar.

The paper reports: “Strengthening their options in the middle of the park is believed to be on the agenda for the United recruitment team over the coming weeks and there have been links with several promising youngsters from across the continent.

“A new name is believed to be on the Magpies radar after they were said to have shown an interest in Feyenoord star Luciano Valente… (He) has made a promising start to life at De Kuip Stadium with a number of impressive displays.

“That is said to have prompted interest from Newcastle – although one Dutch football expert has claimed Feyenoord could consider extending his contract and handing the 22-year-old a pay rise in a bid to warn off any possible move to Tyneside.”
