A transfer release clause could allow Liverpool to secure Antoine Semenyo at a reduced price. The Bournemouth striker has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season.
The Ghanaian, who won’t be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations due to his nation’s failure to qualify for the tournament, has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer and in the weeks building up to the January transfer window.
In October, several reports suggested Semenyo had a £100million valuation. However, it was recently revealed he has a release clause of £60m plus an additional £5m in add-ons, but this seemingly discounted price tag does have an expiration date.
Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
According to GiveMeSportSemenyo’s release clause is valid for the first 10 days of the January transfer window, which kicks off on New Year’s Day. It’s also believed he hasn’t yet decided whether he wants to leave next month.
Manchester United have engaged in direct discussions with Bournemouth regarding a potential move for the forward next month, while Manchester City are also understood too have reached out to the Cherries. This season, he has scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Premier League.
Liverpool invested heavily in the attacking areas, signing Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak for a combined £300m. But with Salah’s future uncertain and Wirtz and Isak struggling to find their feet at Anfield, Sky Sports state that the Reds are monitoring his future.
Arne Slot got a strong look at Semenyo’s qualities at the start of the season, when the ex-Bristol City forward smashed home an impressive brace at Anfield. However, there’s no certainty Semenyo is keen to leave the Vitality Stadium.
During the summer transfer window, he penned a five-year deal with Andoni Iraola’s squad following speculation about a potential departure. When questioned about his future prospects by Sky Sports in early November, he said: “I don’t think about it too much.
“I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I’m not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.
“I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens.
“When they (his former team-mates) all left (in the summer), there was a lot of interest and back and forth with the club, but I knew in my head that the manager’s got something up his sleeve this year.
“How we finished off the season last year was so good and we could continue, especially with the players we’ve bought in as well.
“I wasn’t too sure at the start but we’ve kicked on like a house on fire. I’m glad I committed to staying here because I’m enjoying every moment.”
