Club Brugge 0-3 Arsenal result

GUNNERS STAY PERFECT AS TWO-GOAL MADUEKE HELPS SINK CLUB BRUGGE

Noni Madueke scored a goal of the season contender and Gabriel Martinelli made history as Arsenal remain perfect in the UEFA Champions League courtesy of a 3-0 victory at Club Brugge.

Mikel Arteta opted to make several changes from The Gunners’ defeat at Aston Villa at the weekend, but it made little difference as his side claimed the three points that move them to the brink of qualification for the knockout stages.

Madueke broke the deadlock in style as he surged beyond two challenges before rifling a stunning shot in off the crossbar on 25 minutes.

Brugge, who replaced coach Nicky Hayen with Ivan Leko at the start of the week, had their moments but the lively Carlos Forbs could not help engineer a response.

The visitors made them pay for their profligacy two minutes into the second half when Madueke nodded in his second of the night from Martin Zubimendi’s delicious cross.

Martinelli added a third just shy of the hour with his own moment of individual genius that saw him become the first Gunners player to score in five Champions League matches in a row (Squawka).

The result keeps Arsenal top of the league phase standings with six wins from six, which means one point from their final two games will guarantee a top-eight finish. Brugge are down in 30th and have it all to do to try and secure a place in the play-offs.

Next up, Arsenal continue their push on all fronts as the Premier League leaders host rock-bottom Wolves on Saturday evening – a match you can watch live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
