FIFA is set to make radical changes to the officiating of football, with VAR’s responsibilities to include corners and second yellow cards at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Proposals were made at an October meeting of IFAB, in which FIFA put forward VAR checking the awarding of corners and second yellow cards. Despite corners being denied by IFAB, both are set to be trialled next summer.
