Premier League round-up – Sunderland down Bournemouth with stunning comeback, Igor Thiago magic earns Brentford win, Phil Foden saves Manchester City

The Black Cats have started exceptionally well since their promotion last season from the Championship, and were lodged well within the European picture before kick-off on Saturday.

Both those hopes took a blow after just seven minutes when Amine Adli gave the visitors the lead at the Stadium of Light.

Just eight minutes later, it was 2-0 for Bournemouth as Tyler Adams added an extraordinary second with a lob from the centre circle, and it looked a long way back for Regis Le Bris’ men.

However, former France under-21 star Enzo Le Fee halved the deficit with a penalty on the half-hour mark, which started a remarkable comeback for the top-flight’s new boys.

Bertrand Traore levelled the scores almost immediately after the restart to make the scores 2-2, and then Dutch forward Brian Brobbey scored the winner on 69 minutes.

Sunderland’s win moved them into fourth place on 22 points, with Bournemouth ending the game in ninth spot on 19 points.

Brentford sink Burnley

Brentford had their in-form Brazilian striker Igor Thiago to thank for two of their goals as they won 3-1 at home against Burnley.

In contrast to fellow promoted side Sunderland, Burnley are struggling following their rise from the second tier, and Saturday’s defeat kept Scott Parker’s side lodged second from bottom in the table.

A fairly lowkey encounter preceded some truly frantic final moments, with the score locked at 0-0 until Brentford were awarded a late penalty, with Thiago converting from the spot on 81 minutes.

Just four minutes later, Zian Flemming’s own penalty put Burnley back level.

However, it took just a minute for Thiago to turn the tide of the match once more, and Dango Outtara added a third in stoppage-time for The Bees.

Victory saw Brentford climb to eighth spot with 19 points, as Keith Andrews continues to impress in his debut season in charge of the west London side.

Foden rescues City victory

It appeared that City would cruise to a routine three points when England international Foden opened the scoring in the very first minute, and it became 2-0 when Josko Gvardiol added another on 25 minutes.

Foden’s opener, on 59 seconds, was the fastest goal recorded in the Premier League this season, before Malick Thiaw bettered his effort by scoring 52 seconds into Newcastle’s 4-1 victory against Everton later on Saturday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was introduced as a substitute after the break, and he pulled one back on 49 minutes, before former Manchester City academy player – Lukas Nmecha grabbed an equaliser on 68 minutes, converting after his penalty was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The visitors appeared close to holding out for a share of the points until Foden reappeared in added time for his second, and the winner.

The win puts City in second place, four points behind Arsenal, who have a game in hand, ahead of their clash against third-placed Chelsea on Sunday. Leeds, meanwhile, are 18th on 11 points.
