Arsenal were stunned by Bournemouth on Saturday, falling to a 2-1 home defeat in the Premier League and complicating their position in the title race. The visitors struck first after 17 minutes before Viktor Gyokeres levelled from the penalty spot.
But the decisive blow came in the 74th minute when Alex Scott fired in the winner for Andoni Iraola’s side, who have now gone 12 league games unbeaten. The defeat was Arsenal’s second in their last five Premier League games at the Emirates, while the Cherries have now won both of their last two league trips to north London.
Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta said: “Disappointing. It’s a big punch in the face and it’s about how we react now. They are a team who haven’t lost for 11 games for a reason, they did a lot right.
“We were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it’s a deflection, a bad defending action and it’s a goal. That’s something we have to recover from. The second half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today. We have been very consistent. This can happen, this is football.”
The gap to Manchester City stays at nine points for now, with Pep Guardiola’s side playing on Sunday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. A win for City would trim the deficit to six points, and they still hold a game in hand against Crystal Palace before hosting Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium next weekend.

As for Arsenal, their focus will now turn to the Champions League quarter‑final return leg against Sporting Clube de Portugal. Arteta’s side took a crucial 1-0 lead away from Lisbon, courtesy of Kai Havertz’s stoppage‑time winner.
The run‑in is heating up ahead of the final day on May 24, and City know they cannot afford to waste the chance to close the gap further when they face Chelsea.
