Liverpool player ratings as Florian Wirtz shines but five Reds fail to impress in Burnley draw

Liverpool suffered another afternoon of frustration as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by struggling Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday. Florian Wirtz put the Reds ahead after Dominik Szoboszlai had missed a penalty but a momentary lapse allowed Marcus Edwards to grab a second-half equaliser despite the home side dominating possession and chances.

The result means Arne Slot’s side are now unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions and remain in the top four despite drawing their last four games.

Alisson Becker 6

Bit careless with distribution at times before break but made good save to stop Konate scoring own goal. Bit exposed for Burnley equaliser, though.

Jeremie Frimpong 7

Created openings with pace down the right and one goalbound shot blocked first half. Crossing caused problems but some defensive issues after break.

Ibrahima Konate 7

Few issues dealing with Broja and able to play a few good probing passes, and in right place to prevent Burnley tap-in second half.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Spent most of the opening period in the Burnley half are looking to provide tempo and long ball to Ekitike prompted opener, but moments of unease after interval.

Milos Kerkez 7

Got in down the left early on which set tone for very industrious first-half display but faded a bit after that. Booked and subbed.

Ryan Gravenberch 6

Saw a lot of the ball and showed good energy to move into good positions before break only to be among several players to drop off after half-time. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 6

Overcame slightly shaky start to contribute good pressing and good link through midfield before clever assist for opener. Less influential second half. Subbed.

Florian Wirtz 8

Starting ostensibly on the right, popped up in various positions with creative touches and one shot from range saved before netting first goal. Denied by Dubravka again second half and some good trickery deserved more reward.

Dominik Szoboszlai 6

Began strongly but appeared to be affected somewhat by hitting the crossbar with his penalty. Second half saw too many wrong decisions, presumably from trying a bit too hard.

Cody Ga 7

Among those to be denied by Dubravka and clever footwork won the penalty. Won several corners and shots on target second half. Subbed.

Hugo Ekitike 7

Soon got the measure of the packed Burnley defence and good control and willingness to run saw him influential in build-up to opener. Almost got touch on Jones cross second half.

Added pace to the left flank and one dangerous cross.
