Callum Hudson-Odoi (2) vs Wrexham

Wrexham and Nottingham Forest played out one of the matches of the third round as Sean Dyche’s Premier League outfit fought back to draw level after going 3-1 behind – with Hudson-Odoi’s brace crucial to the comeback.

While Reynolds and Rob Mac’s Championship side would get their Hollywood ending – winning 4-3 on penalties – the former Chelsea winger’s leveller on 89 minutes was a demonstration of his top-flight quality, showing immense composure to control the ball off his chest, and tuck a delightful volley past Arthur Okonkwo.

Danny Welbeck vs Manchester United

Few examples of ‘haunting your old club’ qualify quite as pertinently as when Welbeck scores against his former employers at Old Trafford – and the 35-year-old showed every bit the cultured finisher he is with a sublime show of composure in Sunday’s 2-1 victory.

Welbeck showed a deft touch to expertly slow Brajan Gruda’s pass as it ran towards his left foot, before catching his strike perfectly into the very top corner – giving Senne Lammens no chance.

Tony Springett vs Walsall

It was a comfortable afternoon’s work for Norwich City as they dismissed League Two side Walsall 5-1, largely thanks to a Jovon Makama hat-trick.

However, Springett’s goal two minutes into stoppage-time was the pick of the bunch – for the hosts at least – as the 23-year-old displayed an excellent touch to bring down Liam Gibbs’ outstanding assist and slot the ball home.

Courtney Clarke vs Norwich City

Walsall only had one goal to celebrate on their tricky afternoon in Norfolk – but it was a belter.

Courtney Clarke, who joined from sixth-tier side Eastbourne Borough in the summer, outmuscled Jacob Wright then shirked the challenge of Mathias Kvistgaarden and advanced into space before curling home a delightful effort from distance.

Ji-sung Eom vs West Brom

The South Korea international was on hand to open the scoring for Swansea City in their 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion – the Welsh side eventually exiting the competition after losing 6-5 on penalties.

Receiving the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty box, the 23-year-old cut inside before sending a sumptuous, looped finish into the far corner.

Louis Reed vs Sheffield United

The script was seemingly already written for Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough – son of the late Brian Clough – as he returned to the club he managed between 2013-15 with a tremendous upset.

Louis Reed – also a former Blade – kicked off the perfect day as he netted a stunning opener, which was perfectly befitting of such a frenetic, end-to-end cup tie. He floated an outrageous half-volley beyond Adam Davies with the outside of his right boot.

Gustavo Hamer vs Mansfield Town

Just seven minutes later, however, Sheffield United would celebrate a scorcher of their own. Hamer – widely renowned for his long-range strikes – was simply given too much room to play with around 25 yards out.

He unleashed a piledriver to level the game for the Blades, but that did not prevent their League One opponents from running home three subsequent goals for a 4-1 lead.

Kevin vs Middlesbrough

Fulham forward Kevin may count himself a little lucky to see his name on this list.

His first goal for the club – a close range tap-in – came two minutes into stoppage-time in the 3-1 win against Middlesbrough – but it was all in the Harry Wilson assist.

Receiving the ball from Raul Jimenez, Wilson teed up Kevin with a deft, first-time trivela cross. It was pinpoint – the Brazilian striker barely had to move.

Jorrel Hato vs Charlton Athletic

The Netherlands full-back got the Liam Rosenior era up-and-running with a thumping volley as Chelsea took a 1-0 lead against their Championship counterparts.

When Amari’i Bell headed Moises Caicedo cross into the vacated sector of Charlton’s penalty box, Hato seemed to have an age to wind up his volley, which got the cleanest of connections, leaving keeper William Mannion clawing at thin air.

Rodri vs Exeter City

Pep Guardiola pulled no punches when League One side Exeter City came to town, fielding a full-strength line-up – including new signing Antoine Semenyo.

In an utterly dominant 10-1 victory, Rodri slammed home City’s second for his first goal of the season – taking no nonsense when the ball rolled out to him, bobbling, around 30 yards out.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner would not even afford himself a first touch – seeming to catch Exeter keeper Joe Whitworth unaware.

George Birch vs Manchester City

On 90 minutes, while 9-0 down, Exeter would enjoy some celebrations.

That came when academy star George Birch unleashed a left-footed humdinger, showing every bit the quality that Rodri had done in the first half.

Lamine Cisse vs Coventry City

Coventry City and Stoke City clearly did not get the FA Cup third-round memo with only one goal scored.

But when it did finally come, it was quite extraordinary.

Cisse helped Stoke boss Mark Robins get one over his former club when, on 88 minutes, he had the presence of mind to take the ball down and almost impossibly loop it over Ben Wilson – sparking limbs in Staffordshire.

Enzo Le Fee vs Everton

In perhaps the most ‘Premier League Matchweek 17’-looking FA Cup tie of the round, Le Fee provided a moment of delightful improvisation as he curled his side into the lead.

When Everton failed to deal with a long throw into the box, Eliezer Mayenda was on hand to bring the ball down and tee up Le Fee, who simply wrapped his foot around the ball, sending it into the far corner with perhaps the most satisfying finish of the weekend.
