“They already lost the league”

Former Chelsea midfielder Eidur Gudjohnsen believes Arsenal have already lost the Premier League title. He said that Manchester City will likely continue their good run to win the title.

Before last weekend, the Gunners had a nine-point lead at the top of the table over Manchester City, who have a game in hand. However, they lost 2-1 against Bournemouth at the Emirates on Saturday. The Cityzens then beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to reduce the gap to six points.

The two title challengers will face off at the Etihad on Sunday, April 19. Former Chelsea midfielder Gudjohnsen has claimed that he doesn’t believe Arsenal can beat Manchester City. He said on The Dressing Room podcast:

“Even the fans are going, “What can we do? How can we stop this?”… I think they’ve already lost the league. We’re here to say our opinions. In the end, it’s still in their own hands. They have to go to Man City, get a result, and if they get a win then it’ll be huge.”

“I just don’t see it happening. The way Man City played in the second half at Stamford Bridge, I felt I was watching the best team in the Premier League by far. Just the ability to move the ball around, the physical part of it. They’re all so strong. Jeremy Doku, how strong he is! People just fall off him. When you see Antoine Semenyo run, he just eats the pitch up.”

Manchester City scored all three goals against the Blues in the second half, with Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Jeremy Doku getting on the scoresheet.

Eidur Gudjohnsen claims Chelsea fans would be happy to see Arsenal lose the PL title

Gudjohnsen even claimed that some Blues fans might have been pleased after losing against Manchester City on Sunday. He said that they might be happy to see their London rivals lose out on the Premier League title.

The former Iceland international said:

“I had that feeling during the match: I want Chelsea to be in the Champions League but I don’t want Arsenal to win the league. I think if you speak to 80 per cent of the fans… I’d even go as far as nearly 100 per cent of Chelsea fans would go, ‘I’d sacrifice today just so Arsenal don’t win it’, it’s strange.”

While Arsenal are competing for the Premier League title, the Blues are in the Top 5 race. They sit sixth in the standings, four points behind Liverpool. They have also reached the FA Cup semi-finals, where they will face Leeds United at home.
