Good afternoon and thanks for joining us on the last day of the year for the final match from Group E, featuring an Algeria side already through to the last 16 and a pre-KO-ed Equatorial Guinea. Nothing to play for? Far from it. Among the favourites before the tournament began, Algeria have only enhanced their status with their showing so far in this competition. A third win in a row will give them every reason to believe they can go all the way and join Nigeria and Ivory Coast on three titles.
Equatorial Guinea’s results have not lived up to their stylish performances. Both their defeats may have been by the slenderest of margins but a miss is as good as a mile, and unless they manage a miracle today, they will be going home early. A big victory against Algeria could keep them in Morocco and will be just reward for their promising passages of possession and turns of skill.
