Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck sent Liverpool fans into a January transfer frenzy with his latest comment to Florian Wirtz
Nico Schlotterbeck has already recently stated he is under no immediate pressure to make any decision over his time at Borussia Dortmund. The defender stirred up hundreds of transfer pleas from Liverpool supporters over the past weekend, asking him to complete a January switch.
Schlotterbeck, 26, was among those to celebrate Florian Wirtz’s first Liverpool goal during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield. He commented on the Reds No.7’s Instagram post, which caught the attention of supporters with the transfer window on the verge of reopening this week.
Arne Slot is down to the bare bones with his central defensive options – just Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate remain, with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni injured.

Schlotterbeck began his career with SC Freiburg and has played for Dortmund since 2022. He has made more than 200 career appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League, plus has earned 23 caps playing for Germany.
With 18 months left on his current contract with Dortmund, he will soon become a player the German club must decide whether to keep or sell. As for the player himself, he has refused to be drawn into the topic of his future.
Speaking via Bulinews after Dortmund’s Der Klassiker defeat to Bayern Munich in October 2025, Schlotterbeck stated: “I have a contract at Dortmund for more than one and a half years.
“My agent and I are going to discuss my future, but we’re under no pressure. I feel very good at Dortmund, and Niko (Kovac) has already shown a path here that is fun and exciting for the future.
“My next contract is very important for my career, so I really want to make the right decision.”
He added that any discussions will remain private, saying: “My agent won’t talk publicly about it – we’ll see what happens.”
Liverpool, meanwhile, also continue to be linked with a winter move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. The Reds were denied the defender’s £35m signing on summer deadline day back in September, as their Premier League rivals pulled out of the deal in the final hours.
Guehi will become a free agent next summer when his contract at Selhurst Park expires. Overseas clubs will be able to open negotiations from January 1, 2026, whereas Liverpool would be made to wait until the summer.
The only way of avoiding this is by settling and paying a price to Palace before the next window shuts on February 2, 2026.
