‘We put everything on the line’ – Amorim admits Man U suffered during win against Newcastle

Amorim has become known for his forthright public statements about players and the club since his arrival at Old Trafford last year.
That trait was perhaps at its most clear when he described last season’s vintage as the “worst” in the club’s history.
Amorim, in an exclusive interview with TNT Sports later that week, said he regretted making the comments.
United finished 15th in the league and lost the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham. Many observers did in fairness consider it the worst campaign for the club in half a century.
There was plenty of upheaval in the close season, with Eriksen released when his contract came to an end.
There were exits too for a host of other players, including Antony, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, to Real Betis, Barcelona and Aston Villa respectively.

A number of players came to the club, such as Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko.
Amorim’s exact words were “we are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United” and Danish midfielder Eriksen thought that public criticism such as this only made the players’ jobs more difficult.
“Some stuff you can say inside, and it’s not too clever to say outside, to put extra pressure and put an extra label on the players who were already trying to do their best.
“I don’t think that helped at all, no. Then, if he’s right or wrong, whatever, but I think for us, it was a bit of like, ‘Oh, here we go again. Another headline’.”
After his exit from United, Eriksen – who also had spells with Ajax and Tottenham – joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a free transfer.
