Arne Slot aid tribute to supporters of both teams as Diogo Jota was remembered at Anfield
Arne Slot paid tribute to both Liverpool and Wolves supporters after an emotional day at Anfield as Diogo Jota’s two former sides met for the first time since the Portuguese’s passing in the summer.
Two of the forward’s children – Dinis and Duarte – as well as other family members, were mascots ahead of the game as they walked out with Reds captain Virgil van Dijk.
Meanwhile, both sets of supporters paid their respects to Jota in the 18th and 20th minutes respectively – in reference to his shirt numbers for either club – as they sang his name and chant, to the sound of applause from their counterparts.

Slot admitted it was a difficult day as Liverpool and Wolves both continue to grieve for Jota, but was blown away by both fanbases at Anfield.
(It was) difficult, but in a way also special and nice,” he said. “I think the football world showed how to behave in moments like this.
“Our fans have been incredible since the tragedy happened until today. Every single moment they did what you would hope they do in memory of him.
“Today the away fans showed it is not only about our fans. It is also about fans of other teams.
“In the 18th minute they started singing for Diogo, the Wolves fans, and our fans were clapping. And in the 20th minute it was the opposite way around.
“You guys know, and I know this for one and a half years now, how special English fans are.
“I think today we showed to the outside world, to the whole world, that it’s not only the players who make this league special but it’s definitely also the fans.”
Meanwhile, Van Dijk admitted it was an honour to walk out with Jota’s children ahead of the game.
“It was an absolute honour to have the boys with me and Ali (Becker) as well together,” he told the club. “I think it was something I was really looking forward to.
“Obviously after discussions with Rute (Diogo’s wife) and the family it was really something I looked forward to. It was going to be emotional, but I think it’s something that the boys will remember forever.
“Hopefully there’s more to come in the future for them and they can keep enjoying Liverpool because Liverpool is the place that’s very big to their hearts and Diogo will always stay with us forever.
“I was very proud to have them with us and the fans I think appreciated that as well.”
