RB Leipzig are hoping to keep Liverpool transfer target Yan Diomande for another year by including a “release clause” in his contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds have been keeping tabs on the Ivorian international, but Romano claims Leipzig’s determination to retain the winger’s services could complicate matters:
“Liverpool are looking at wingers, Diomande is one of the players they have been monitoring and they have been following.”
“Let me say that if Liverpool, or one of the other clubs, decided to attack with big money this summer, it would be difficult for Leipzig to resist. But they keep insisting on this possibility to include a release clause and keep the player for one more season.”
£87m is the magic number for Diomande
Despite Leipzig’s current transfer stance, it has been consistently reported via sources in Germany that the Bundesliga side would consider selling if a club matched their €100m (£87m) valuation.
Considering Diomande has only been playing professionally for just over a year, some have suggested it may be too much of a risk to spend such a significant sum on a player who is still relatively unproven.
Even so, Leipzig feel that, as other clubs (including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea) have also scouted the player, they are well within their rights to demand a high fee, especially as they only recruited him last year.
Do Liverpool have any alternatives lined up?
Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Juventus’s Francisco Conceicao have all been mentioned as possible summer targets for the Reds.
However, with the exception of Conceicao, none are deemed to be particularly realistic options due to price and availability. It does appear as if sporting director Richard Hughes will have to make a decision on whether to choose cheaper alternatives, or go all out with a massive offer for Diomande.
