Trent Alexander-Arnold has sent a message to Mohamed Salah as the Liverpool star departs for the Africa Cup of Nations
Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown his support for his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian’s latest message. Salah’s name has been the subject of intense debate over the last week following his interview after the Reds’ draw with Leeds United.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot named Salah on the bench for three consecutive matches earlier this month, which prompted an outburst from the Reds No.11 in an interview with the media after the stalemate at Elland Road.
Salah had claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club, as well as claiming he had “no relationship” with Slot.
This led to Salah being left out of the Liverpool squad that travelled to face Inter Milan in the Champions League last week, before the 33-year-old was reunited with his teammates for the Premier League clash against Brighton at the weekend.

Salah posted on Instagram a wordless message which included a graphic which showed his record as the player with the most goals and assists for one club in Premier League history.
Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram to leave a comment on Salah’s post, which featured only a goat emoji, referring to the Liverpool star as the ‘greatest of all time’. Salah and Alexander-Arnold spent eight years as teammates at Liverpool before the latter left the club in the summer to join Real Madrid shortly before his contract at Anfield expired.
Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also left a message on Salah’s post, which received more than 280,000 likes, which featured a crown emoji and a red love heart emoji.
Saturday saw Salah make his first appearance for Liverpool as he made a cameo from the bench as the Reds claimed a 2-0 win at Anfield. Salah provided the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s goal and was given a welcome reception by the home crowd in his final match before departing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Slot explained why he decided to recall Salah to the Liverpool squad for the win over Brighton, whilst also stating that he would not reveal what was said between the pair in the days leading up to the game.
“No, for me there is no issue to resolve,” Slot said. “For me, he is the same as any other player.
“You talk to your players if you are happy or unhappy with things but there is nothing for me to talk about after what happened against Leeds after the game.
“The reason he wasn’t in Milan was his interview. Everybody has a different opinion about that, should he be once, twice, three times, four times, four months, 12 years.
“Every manager makes different decisions about that. He wasn’t involved in the game against Milan and I spoke to him yesterday. As I usually never say anything about what we talk about, I am not going to make an exception now.
“What has been said between the two of us in that conversation stays between us. What you see is what you get to know. He was in the squad and my first substitution.
“And all the other things have been said in that conversation, I never speak about. When I speak to Virgil or Mo or any other player, I never tell you guys what we talk about.
“But actions speak louder than what has been said. He was in the squad again and when I had to make my first substitution, I brought him in and he performed as every fan wanted him to, including me, would like him to perform today.”
