Mohamed Salah is set to return to the Liverpool squad for the Premier League match against Brighton on Saturday following talks with Arne Slot, having being left out altogether against Inter Milan
Liverpool reportedly do not want to sell Mohamed Salah in the January transfer window, despite the player’s striking public comments.
There has been speculation that Saturday’s game against Brighton could be the forward’s final game for the club. It comes after bombshell remarks following last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United. Salah was an unused substitute for the game, with it being the third time in a row he was named on the bench.
The Egyptian international accused the club of throwing him ‘under the bus’ after being relegated to the bench. He also spoke about his deteriorating relationship with manager Arne Slot.

“I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season,” he said.
“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
Following the comments, Salah was left out of the travelling squad who made their way to Italy to take on Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday night. However, after holding talks with Slot on Friday, he will be back in the frame against Brighton, having been named as part of the squad.
Following the Brighton game, Salah will join up with Egypt to play in the Africa Cup of Nations. Whether it will be his last ever Reds appearance remains to be seen.
As reported by The AthleticLiverpool hope that is not the case, with Salah still having one-and-a-half years remaining on his contract. It’s added that his spell on the bench was only seen as temporary.
The club are said to be ‘bewildered’ by the situation. They also feel that the ball is in Salah’s court when it comes to his future, with the player needing to outline to the club if he does want to leave before the end of the window.
If that is the case, and he retains that stance, then the situation could become ‘untenable’ in the eyes of the club. The Reds may then be forced to cash in, with Salah having been linked with clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
It’s also thought in some circles that Salah’s comments were to either force a move from the club in January or to put more pressure on Slot after a poor season so far.
Liverpool currently sit in 10th place in the table, 10 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
