Mohamed Salah has been sent a clear transfer message with Liverpool already making a decision on his future for the upcoming January window
Liverpool do not want to sell Mohamed Salah in the January transfer window despite his recent outburst. Following a third consecutive benching, Salah unleashed an explosive rant in the mixed zone at Elland Road after remaining an unused substitute in the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
The 33-year-old claimed he no longer has a relationship with Arne Slot and felt like the club was throwing him under the bus. Slot subsequently dropped him for the Champions League clash against Inter, with Salah hinting this weekend’s Brighton match could be his last for Liverpool, though it seems unlikely he is recalled.
There are a number of potential options for Salah if he departs Anfield just six months on from signing a new bumper contract. However, The Athletic have reported Liverpool do not want to sell him, with senior club officials pointing to the fact that Salah’s deal does not expire until the summer of 2027.

It was also claimed that his recent spell out of the starting XI was not going to be a permanent measure. Despite Liverpool’s clear stance, interest from Saudi Arabia and the United States is present.
Joining the Major League Soccer has been a path taken by many older footballing superstars. And MLS Commissioner Don Garber has urged Salah to have a conversation with two of those when discussing the possibility of the Liverpool man plying his trade in America.
He said: “I’ve seen some rumours about Mo Salah. We very much believe in the sanctity of a contract; that’s an American business dynamic. Mo’s under contract to Liverpool, people we know.
“It’s a great team. Obviously, if he (Salah) ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we’d welcome him with open arms. I’d say he should reach out to Leo (Messi) and reach out to Thomas Muller and see how happy they’ve been and how successful they’ve been and how much they’ve really embraced being in Major League Soccer.”
Liverpool and Salah resolving the situation still seems the most likely outcome with Steven Gerrard the latest former player to offer his verdict.
He has claimed that the onus is on Salah to apologise to Slot, with Virgil van Dijk also sent a clear message by the former Liverpool captain.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Gerrard said: “He said a couple of lines within the interview that are wrong, and I think he needs to apologise for that. I hope that Virgil van Dijk, as his captain, as his leader, will help put that together.
“I’ve been in that situation myself. The reality is, as a Liverpool fan now, Mohamed Salah is a world-class footballer, and he’s Liverpool’s best goalscorer.
“He helped win the league last year, so we can’t all have short memories. He’s really important for the football club, unless the situation’s a lot worse than what we’re seeing.
“Hopefully the situation can be sorted out in the coming hours and days because no one, from a Liverpool perspective, needs this to go on. The result last night helped. They were fantastic. It was a top team performance.”
