Alexander Isak was on the score-sheet in Liverpool’s crucial 2-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Jamie Carragher has praised Alexander Isak after the summer signing helped fire Liverpool to a much-needed Premier League victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were in desperate need of a reaction after a dismal week which saw them comfortably beaten by both Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven. Those results formed part of a wider stretch that had seen them lose nine of their previous 12 games across all competitions.
There was almost a collective sigh of relief in the second half when Isak finally scored his first Premier League goal for the Reds, calmly finishing from a Cody Gakpo pass. The Dutchman then went from provider to goal-scorer as he added a second for Liverpool late on, with the visitors reduced to 10 men after Lucas Paqueta was sent-off.

Speaking after the game, former Reds defender Carragher praised the striker for his composure in the box on what was a difficult chance to finish. He also emphasised how significant a moment it could be for the Swede as he looks to finally ignite his Anfield career.
“It was a big moment for him,” Carragher told Sky Sports post-match. “He had a couple of chances first half and one he should have done better with.
“Isak does really well. He finds space in the box and it’s not easy to find space with so many numbers in there. West Ham have probably got everyone back behind the ball.
“He drops off the defenders there and it’s a lovely, cushioned finish. It’s one of those that just bounces and then he gets a really good contact on it.”
Arne Slot’s side are back in action midweek with the visit of Sunderland, which will be followed by a trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United. The win over West Ham puts Liverpool three points outside the top four, meaning a run of positive results could finally get their season back on track.
For Isak in particular, he has now scored two goals in his 12 appearances in all competitions, as well as registering one assist, which came in the narrow defeat to Chelsea earlier in the campaign.
This comes after his deadline-day move to Liverpool, in which he joined the champions from Newcastle United for a mouth-watering fee of £125 million. He did not have a pre-season, however, as he went on strike to force through the move this summer, which has meant he must be eased in slowly to get him back to full fitness.
