West Ham 0-2 Liverpool result – Alexander Isak nets first Premier League goal for Reds and Cody Gakpo also on target; Lucas Paqueta sent off for hosts

ALEXANDER ISAK ENDS GOAL DROUGHT AS LIVERPOOL TRIUMPH AND EASE HEAT ON SLOT

Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool and Cody Gakpo was also on target as the reigning champions eased some of the pressure on boss Arne Slot with a 2-0 win at West Ham United.

The visitors dominated the first half but both Isak and Florian Wirtz spurned fine opportunities to break the deadlock.

The pattern continued following the interval and Isak finally made the breakthrough when he fired Gakpo’s cut back from the left into the bottom corner.

West Ham, who paid tribute to the late Billy Bonds prior to kick-off, struggled to manage any sort of response and had Lucas Paqueta sent off for dissent six minutes from time.

Gakpo then sealed the points with a stoppage-time second to end The Hammers’ three-match unbeaten run.

The result sees Liverpool rise to eighth, two points off the top four after ending a three-match losing run across all competitions.

West Ham sit 17th and above Leeds on goals scored.

Next up, Liverpool host Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday night. West Ham visit Manchester United on Thursday.
