NEWCASTLE BOSS EDDIE HOWE ON WHETHER HE WILL TURN TO AARON RAMSDALE
Nick Pope came under the microscope for a ‘high-profile mistake’ in Marseille and a reporters asks Howe if he may turn to on-loan shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale at Everton.
“All options, of course, are on the table for me. I need to – as I always do with the team selection – think long and hard about who I pick. And I try to do that on merit, As I say, I get the luxury of seeing the players train every day – goalkeepers included – and I’ll make my call.”
He added: ” I think Nick is vastly experienced. He’s a very level character. You don’t see highs and lows even when he plays really well and makes world-class saves on a regular basis. He’s still very calm and relaxed and absorbs it all. I think that’s one of the hallmarks of any player in that kind of position, where you’re there to be shot at and you wear your emotions evidently for everyone to see.
“Of course, I discuss things with all my players on a regular basis, but yeah, Nick is a top-class professional and an outstanding goalkeeper and we certainly back him.
“He’s made a number of brilliant saves for us this season already.”
