IMPRESSIVE STRASBOURG EDGE OUT PALACE

Strasbourg recovered from a goal down to claim a hard-fought 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in a pulsating UEFA Conference League contest at Stade de la Meinau.

Tyrick Mitchell fired Palace into a first-half lead, but second-half strikes from Emanuel Emegha and Samir El Mourabet earned Liam Rosenior’s side all three points.

This was an intriguing clash between two evenly-matched sides, which could have easily gone in favour of Oliver Glasner’s side.

Palace were left to rue missing a series of golden opportunities, and for not punishing the error-prone Mike Penders on a couple of key occasions.

The Strasbourg shot-stopper was twice caught well outside his own goal, but Ismalia Sarr and Adam Wharton could only hit the woodwork on both occasions.

Mitchell scored Palace’s only goal of the night, as Jean-Philippe Mateta expertly held the ball up for Mitchell to fire home a brilliant, clinical, angled finish.

However, the momentum turned Strasbourg’s way when Emegha restored parity after a fine finish at the far post from Diego Moreira’s cross.

Penders would then deny Yeremy Pino with a superb save, which would prove to be a telling moment ahead of Strasbourg’s second goal.

Julio Enciso’s free-kick hit the bar and Samir El Mourabet was on hand to coolly fire home the loose ball with a superbly-taken half-volley.

The result leaves Glasner’s side in 18th with six points from four games, while Strasbourg are sitting pretty in second on 10 points.
