Arsenal have been urged to hijack Liverpool’s move to sign a Real Madrid player in the summer.
The Gunners are heading back out of the international break hoping to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals after their quarter-final against Southampton on Saturday night.
This season, Mikel Arteta has made several big line-up decisions. One player who has lost out is winger Gabriel Martinelli, as Leandro Trossard has been starting on the left-wing.
Seeing as Martinelli’s contract is due to expire at the end of next season, Arsenal could decide to cash in on him rather than extending his deal at the Emirates.
Arsenal should replace Martinelli with Rodrygo
If the Gunners sell Martinelli, they will need to find a replacement. One name who has been linked with a move to Arsenal for several months is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who could leave the La Liga club after falling out of favour.
This season, the 25-year-old has scored three goals, and providing six assists for Real Madrid in 26 games this season. According to reports in Spain, Liverpool want to sign him as a long-term replacement for Mo Salah, in a swap deal with Dominic Szoboszlai, which would be a blockbuster move.
Transfers are reporting that Liverpool have held a long-standing interest in Rodrygo, and so could make their move. But, seeing as the Gunners need a replacement for Martinelli in the future, Arsenal should hijack Liverpool’s move, and look to sign the 25-year-old.
Rodrygo has an estimated market value of £52m, which is similar to Martinelli’s market value of around £40m. Rodrygo has a better goal-scoring record, he is more of a winner, and is more of an athlete than Martinelli, so it is a move that makes a lot of sense for the Gunners in the summer.
