Frankie Dettori’s final flying dismount after winning the big race in Brazil
Frankie Dettori retired for good with one more big race success in Brazil, landing the first leg of the country’s Triple Crown. The legendary jockey had originally scheduled his retirement for Champions Day at Ascot in October 2023 only to reverse his decision to call it a day and continue his career in the US.
The 55-year-old confirmed last November that his time there would come to an end at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar ahead of a short farewell tour in South America ending at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. He went on to ride two winners, the first on Speak Alpha, and then on Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.

It gave him one last opportunity to perform his trademark flying dismount celebration.
He told Agentes305: “I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day. It’s been brilliant
“I was very emotional. I enjoyed everything. I’ve had a beautiful caarer and I’m blessed I can walk out in one piece.
“I achieved everything I wanted to do. I hope people enjoyed what I did. Of course my career is finished as a jockey but I’m not dead. I’m still going to be involved in racing.”
Dettori has accepted a role as a global ambassador for Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing, for whom he rode his final British Group 1 on King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes.
Earlier in a social media post to fans, the jockey said: “Racing has been my life. I began riding in Italy as a 15-year-old boy nearly 40 years ago, and this sport has given me everything.
“It may not have been perfect at times, but I have loved every single moment. I’ve travelled the world, met incredible people, made memories I will carry forever and have been lucky enough to ride some truly extraordinary horses.
“To my family, thank you for your love, patience, and unwavering support. You shared the journey and sacrifices and you are the reason for everything.
“To every trainer, owner, stable staff member, and jockey I’ve shared this journey with, thank you. We’ve had some laughs along the way.
“And to the fans, you were always there. Your love and support carried me around the world and lifted me more than you’ll ever know.
“Thank you for letting a young boy live his dream.”
