The food prices at the Winter Olympics have impressed fans almost as much as the sporting prowess on display. The action at the Milan Cortina Games is already underway ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.
Team GB are hoping to improve on their medal haul, having earned a gold and silver medal at the last Winter Games in Beijing. Ahead of the current Winter Olympics, UK Sport set a target of between three and seven medals.
Fans will be glued to the action over the coming weeks, which is being broadcast across the BBC and TNT Sports. However, the Winter Olympics have catered well for those attending events, with their food prices praised on social media.
Inflated prices for food and drink at major sporting events have largely become the norm. However, photos circulating on social media show that the Winter Games are offering more affordable options.

An nduja pizza is priced at approximately £7.82, while margherita, ham and cheese and vegetarian pizzas all cost £6.95. The latter price also applies to a gluten-free sandwich.

The drink options include americano coffee and hot tea, both costing £2.62. Meanwhile, fans wanting an alcoholic drink can pay £6.95 for prosecco or £7.82 for a spritz cocktail.
Those needing a snack have several options, including crisps for £2.61 and popcorn for £2.17. Other sweet treats on offer include candy at £1.74, assorted muffins at £3.04 and a gluten-free brownie at £3.48.
A separate photo shows that a cheeseburger, cheese and bacon burger, chicken burger and vegetarian burger are all priced at £8.69. The same image shows a classic hot dog on sale for £6.95.
Given the often eye-watering food and prices at sporting events, several social media users praised the pricing at the Winter Games. One Reddit user said: “That is startlingly affordable.”
A second responded: “Honestly it’s cheaper than I would have expected.” A third added: “Yeah, they’re standard European prices, but really no massive markups like I too would have expected.”
A fourth joked: “I’ve seen dive bars with more expensive menus.” Another said: “A LOT cheaper. It’ll be 3x for the American games.”
Comparing the prices to English events, one user observed: “This is very reasonable, you would never see prices this low at any stadium/event/venue in or around London where I am.” Similarly, another fan noted: “As an American, I’m horrified by how that doesn’t look very expensive.” Summing up the general reaction, another user wrote: “These are bargains. I cannot believe it.”
