Winter Olympics chiefs have drastically underestimated the required number of condoms for the thousands of athletes competing at the Milano Cortina Games

The Winter Olympics village has reportedly run out of condoms despite 10,000 freebies being handed out to athletes. The accommodation where Olympians stay during the Games is notoriously steamy, with countless randy tales emerging over the years.
Chiefs look to combat any potential problems with free contraceptives. But after 200,000 were handed out at the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only a measly 10k were distributed at Milano Cortina.
While there were around 10,500 competitors in the French capital 18 months ago, and only just shy of 3,000 based in northern Italy this month, the five-figure sum has proved far too conservative.
An athlete who wished to remain anonymous told Italian newspaper La Stampa on Thursday: “The supplies sold out in just three days. They promised us more will arrive but who knows when.”
So-called ‘anti-sex’ beds are another measure Olympic bosses have supposedly enlisted in an attempt to reduce the amount of activity away from the cameras. The slimmed-down cardboard design doesn’t appear to be working, though.

It’s not the first time the condoms have run out. Organisers at Sydney 2000 had to order 20,000 more after their initial 70k allocation was all used up.
An outbreak of an STI would naturally be a disaster for the Games. The message shared to athletes upon their arrival in Milan was: ‘”Health first: prevention and common sense.”
One former Olympic gold medallist shed light on just how X-rated the village can get. In a 2012 interview with CNNthe anonymous competitor said: “Anyone who wants to be naive and say they don’t know what’s going on in the village are lying to themselves.
“They know, the officials know, even the media. It’s not a secret, everyone knows! (Sex) is all part of the Olympic spirit. The International Olympic Committee wouldn’t say that, but it is, you can’t shy away from it.
“Why do you think they give away so many condoms? You talk, you go to your room. Let me say this… there were lots of volunteers and they were happy to help you with whatever your needs were. My roommate and I would put something on the door so we would know if the other was ‘busy’.
“I feel bad to say it but my coach actually guarded the door the night before me and my roommate were racing! But it didn’t affect me like that. When I raced after sex I felt light on my feet. We were young and most of the people I hung out with were single.”
