A supercomputer has predicted Manchester City to secure the Premier League title by a single point – mere hours after Arsenal’s defeat opened the door for their rivals. At the other end of the table, it believes Tottenham will be relegated.
The Gunners have controlled the title race for the majority of the campaign and, despite their domestic cup setback, possessed a nine-point advantage heading into the weekend but failed to stretch that to 12. Instead, they were shocked by Bournemouth, who inflicted a fifth defeat of the season upon them.
City will have been observing as their prospects of claiming a fifth title in six years received a significant boost. The algorithms have now forecast that the trophy will remain in Manchester – rather than heading to north London.
That would represent a major disappointment for Mikel Arteta, who has concluded as runner-up in each of the previous three campaigns. In 2023 and 2024, they held the advantage until the crucial stages, only to falter and witness City surpass them.
Guardiola’s side have been projected to finish on 81 points – one clear of Arsenal. Interestingly, the supercomputer doesn’t anticipate City defeating the Gunners next weekend, but it does forecast Arsenal drawing four of their remaining six fixtures, reports the Mirror.
That would see them surrender eight points, while City have been backed to triumph in six of their final eight matches to claim another championship. It would mark Guardiola’s seventh since arriving in England a decade ago.
The race for Champions League qualification and the battle against relegation remain two of the most compelling storylines yet to be resolved. Manchester United’s resurgence in the second half of the season has them sitting third, where they are expected to finish, while Aston Villa secure a return to European football’s elite competition in fourth, according to FindSisterSites.
Liverpool and Chelsea are locked in a fierce contest for fifth place, with the Blues tipped to clinch the crucial final Champions League berth. The Merseysiders finish sixth, a stark decline from their title-winning campaign last season, a result that could leave Arne Slot’s position under serious scrutiny.
At the foot of the table, a Premier League ever-present in Tottenham sees their top-flight tenure come to a devastating end. For the first time since the 1970s, Spurs face the drop and, despite a managerial change, Roberto De Zerbi is unable to steer them to safety, with the club falling short by three points.
They manage just five points from their final seven fixtures, with Leeds finishing 17th, below both Nottingham Forest and West Ham, who accumulate nine points from six matches to pull themselves clear of danger.
