Alan Shearer has suggested Anthony Gordon could be the subject of a blockbuster summer transfer, with Arsenal reportedly among the clubs monitoring the situation.

The former Newcastle striker, now a prominent pundit, believes his old club would demand a fee in the region of £100 million if they were to consider selling the England international. According to recent reports, Shearer warned that any suitor would likely have to pay a “huge” or even club-record fee to prise Gordon away from Newcastle United this summer.

Interest from ARSENAL is not new. The Gunners have been linked with Gordon for several months, with manager Mikel Arteta believed to be a long-time admirer of the winger dating back to his time at Everton. Reports earlier this year indicated Arsenal could test Newcastle’s resolve with a substantial bid, though the Magpies are under no pressure to sell given Gordon’s long-term contract and rising importance to the team

He told Betfair: ‘Well, it is quite funny because if you believe every rumour, Tino Livramento’s been linked, Lewis Hall’s been linked, Sandro Tonali has been linked, and Bruno has been linked alongside Anthony Gordon.

‘I mean, if every player leaves that’s been linked with a move, Newcastle won’t have any players left. It always happens more in the international break.

‘With all the columns, newspapers and with social media now, I guess it’s a lot worse than it perhaps was. I guess, again, because of what’s happened with Newcastle, clubs are going to try and come in and poach them if they don’t qualify for Europe, which clearly doesn’t look like they’re going to unless they go on a remarkable run.

‘It’ll be an interesting summer. I do think that clubs will come in for players and Newcastle will have to stand firm.

‘It seemed a lot of money at the time when Newcastle signed Gordon. But I guess you’d have to start, if you’re talking about an England international forward who’s got a really good chance of starting for England, then you’d have to probably get over £100 million to have a chance of signing Gordon.’

Would Gordon be a good signing for Arsenal?

From a tactical standpoint, Gordon would fit seamlessly into Arsenal’s system. His pace, direct running, and pressing intensity align closely with Arteta’s demands for wide forwards. He could provide genuine competition—and possibly an upgrade in certain areas—to existing options on the left flank.

Perhaps most importantly, Gordon offers versatility. He has shown he can operate centrally when required, which would give Arsenal additional depth in attacking positions, especially during a congested fixture schedule.

However, the price tag is the key issue. At £100 million, expectations would be enormous. While Gordon has shown flashes of elite quality, he is not yet consistently delivering at the level typically associated with such a fee. Arsenal would need to be convinced that his ceiling justifies the investment.

There is also the question of squad balance. ARSENALalready possess strong wide options, and allocating such a significant portion of their budget to one position could limit reinforcements elsewhere
