Arsenal are currently in the thick of a battle to lift the Premier League but plans are already being put in place for the upcoming summer transfer window with a number of moves being eyed

Arsenal may have to fight off Premier League interest should they move for Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza. The Gunners are currently involved in a battle to lift the Premier League title under Mikel Arteta.

And the Spaniard could move for one of his compatriots in an effort to improve his squad this summer. As per the BBCthe North London side have been made aware of Mingeuza’s potential availability.

The Celta Vigo star is out of contract at the end of the season, and it appears that talks over a renewed deal have hit a standstill. Speaking earlier this week, Celta sporting director Marco Garces said: “The situation is in his hands; he knows he has an offer from us, and we’re waiting for him to make a decision. He hasn’t responded yet.”

Mingueza, 26, is a product of the Barcelona academy and went on to make 66 first-team appearances in Catalonia. He moved to Celta Vigo in 2022 and has gone on to accumulate 135 outings for the Spanish side, while he has also made four appearances for the Spanish national team.

A move for Mingueza would likely depend on the futures of the club’s current defenders. They have William Saliba, Gabriel, Cristian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Ben White for the position that the Spaniard would play.

Piero Hincapie is currently on loan at the Emirates and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal activate their option to sign him permanently. Polish defender Jakub Kiwior also remains contracted to the Gunners, albeit could complete a permanent switch to Porto.

There is also reportedly plenty of competition for Mingueza’s signature. West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all been linked in the past, while European giants Juventus and Marseille have also been credited with an interest.

He is also not the only fullback Arsenal are eyeing. Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is a player that they admire, with the Magpies likely to cash-in on a big name this summer should they miss out on a spot in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Mingueza is not the only La Liga star that Arsenal are interested in ahead of next season. They have also been linked with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The BBC report that while Arsenal’s interest in the former Manchester City man is indeed genuine, either Viktor Gyokeres or Kai Havertz would have to leave the club in the summer in order to make room for the Argentine.
