The return of a Liverpool academy star to Arne Slot’s struggling side has been discussed

Liverpool have been advised that bringing Harry Wilson back to Anfield could be a wise move. The Fulham player, who rose through the ranks at Liverpool’s academy and spent 17 years with the club, only made two appearances for the first team.
After successful loan spells in the Championship with Hull City, Derby County, and Fulham, the Welsh international made a permanent switch to Fulham in 2021 for a fee of £12million.
Now in his fifth season at Craven Cottage, the 28-year-old is having the best campaign of his career, having scored seven goals and provided four assists. Fulham currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, just five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

Given Wilson’s impressive form and Liverpool’s struggles on the right wing, there has been speculation that the reigning champions might consider re-signing their former player, who will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed that discussions are underway with Wilson’s representatives regarding his contract expiry, but a return to Anfield has been touted as a smart move by the Reds. This sentiment is shared by former Liverpool star Stephane Henchoz and Sam Allardyce.
In conversation with Hajper, the former Switzerland international commented: “Harry Wilson is an interesting one for Liverpool, when a player is available on a free transfer, it makes the decision very different.
“Wilson could also be an option, but it always depends on the club hierarchy, the directors, who they think is the best player or profile, and the strategy. Is it really only to take players and bring performance, or does the player have a resale value, which usually most clubs like to do?
That’s probably what Liverpool have done with Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and even Alexander Isak, they all have a resale potential in 18 months or two years.”
Henchoz’s view was mirrored by Sam Allardyce, who suggested Wilson’s performances could reach new heights if he rejoins Liverpool, thanks to the calibre of players around him.
On the Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the former West Ham and Newcastle manager said: “I won’t be surprised if he’s already getting calls from other clubs already. No doubt about that. Especially when he’s free.
“He’s experienced Liverpool, and they ended up moving him on, so to go back to a bigger club than Fulham, returning to Liverpool for example, it’ll be great to see if he can translate that high-quality of play into that team.
