Liverpool have decisions to make in the January transfer window despite splashing the cash over the summer

With less than half of the January transfer window remaining, Liverpool could still be active in the market. So far, the Reds have been relatively quiet, with the exception of signing Mor Talla Ndiaye from Amitie and letting James Norris head to Shelbourne.
Manager Arne Slot made headlines over the summer by spending £400million on new signings such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. However, injuries to defenders Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, along with Isak’s fractured leg, have sparked speculation about further investment.
Despite this, early signs suggest there’s no need for a panic buy, while a potential move for Marc Guehi seemed likely but it now appears he will be heading to Manchester City instead. On the pitch, Liverpool are now preparing for a Champions League clash against Marseille at the Velodrome on Wednesday, after Saturday’s Premier League exploits.
A lot can change before the end of the month and Liverpool will need to consider whether to make changes to their squad in the coming weeks or stick with what they have.

Pennant gives Reds defender warning
Ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has cautioned the club that they could be made to pay if they choose not to delve into the transfer market for a new right-back. With Conor Bradley facing months out due to a knee injury sustained against Arsenal, Pennant is worried that Liverpool have little room for manoeuvre when it comes to injuries.
“I’m very disappointed in hearing that Liverpool won’t be signing a right-back, to not even look at maybe a loan option… if you don’t want to spend money fair enough,” the pundit told talkSPORT. “We spent quite a lot in the summer, but some sort of cover, maybe someone who can even just sit on the bench.
“We are injury prone at the moment and down to bare bones and loads of games coming. We are still in loads of competitions and have got to try and maintain to keep in the top 4 for Champions League football.
“It’s a little bit disappointing and as the hierarchy, the sporting director and the board should be looking at this thing if we don’t get anyone in we are taking a gamble. If we get one more injury that could really destroy our season in every way shape and form.”
Bayern's position on Diomande transfer
RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande is amongst the most sought-after talents in global football, with the Ivory Coast international having previously revealed his ambition to represent Liverpool. “I’m a huge Liverpool fan. My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield!” he said in a video shared on social media earlier this month.
The Reds aren’t alone in their pursuit of the former Leganes player, whom Leipzig are said to value at around £86million. Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as potential suitors, alongside several of Liverpool’s top-flight competitors, although Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund remained tight-lipped when questioned about the speculation.
“He’s a very good player who has developed very well,” Freund said when asked about Diomande, as reported by Sky Sport Germany. “Whenever a young player performs really well in the Bundesliga, he gets linked with Bayern,” he continued, adding: “that’s not our place to comment on.”
Diomande, whose contract runs until 2030, has returned from his Africa Cup of Nations stint. Before joining his Cote d’Ivoire team-mates, he scored six goals and provided three assists for Leipzig, and netted in a round-of-16 victory against Burkina Faso at AFCON.
Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
