Liverpool star’s private plea to Arne Slot revealed over game time with decision imminent

Andy Robertson recently admitted he has a decision to make about his Liverpool future and Arne Slot has now responded to those comments

Arne Slot has responded to Andy Robertson’s recent comments about contract talks with Liverpool and his desire for more playing time. The Reds vice-captain recently confirmed that he and the club have already begun talks about a potential new deal for the Scotland international.

Robertson’s current contract with Liverpool is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning he has now entered the final six months of his contract and is able to speak to clubs outside England about a pre-contract agreement.

Slot has handed Robertson just four starts in the Premier League this season, with the left-back recently admitting that he has a decision to make about his future at Anfield.

“We’ll see what happens,” Robertson said. “We’ve had chats now which will remain private. I’ve spoken to them and we’ll see what happens. Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask. I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.

“I’ll sit down with my family and decide. After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player. I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants moving forward.”

Slot has now weighed in on Robertson’s future, including which player will start at left-back between Robertson and summer signing Milos Kerkez. Slot acknowledged the comments from Robertson when explaining when he plans to tell the players who will start for the Premier League clash against Burnley on Saturday.

“Who knows if he (Kerkez) starts, the players will find out today,” Slot said. “ (Andy) Robertson said he wants to play and needs games but it is not just these two.

“I know who is going to play and the players will find out today.”

Slot went on to praise Robertson for the maturity the Liverpool vice-captain showed while expressing his feelings about getting more minutes.

“I think I had to give him (Robertson) a big compliment over what he said, very mature and I understood everything he said,” Slot said.

“Every player should have the same feeling who doesn’t start every game but I am really happy to hear he finds joy in his current position and he understands how important he is and has been for this club.

“He hasn’t played as much as he would have hoped but what he said in the media was a big compliment.”
