Arne Slot discusses Calvin Ramsay’s first-team prospects at Liverpool after the season-ending injury to Conor Bradley

Arne Slot says Calvin Ramsay must bide his time for a chance in the Liverpool first team after the season-ending injury to Conor Bradley earlier this month. The Northern Ireland international was ruled out for the campaign after suffering a serious knee injury in the goalless draw at Arsenal last week.
It means Slot has just the versatile Jeremie Frimpong and centre-back Joe Gomez available to him on the right side of the back four as senior options.
Ramsay, who joined Liverpool from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022, has made just one start in over three years for the club, which came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in October, when a much-changed outfit were soundly beaten 3-0 at Anfield.

Slot has also opted to choose midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back at times this term when both Frimpong and Bradley have been unavailable and, while Ramsay is considered an option for what has been a problematic position this season, the head coach says the young Scot won’t be turned to just yet as the defending champions get set to host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
“It is great for Calvin where he is,” Slot said. “He came back to the Under-21s half a year ago and everyone there is hoping for a big chance and it is a big chance he is having now to come to the first team.
“When someone is really unlucky with injuries, there is always someone who benefits and Calvin is one of those. But I still think I have better options to play but I am running out of them.
“He has shown in that one game, against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, that he is good enough to be in and around our players, then you have to wait for your chance.
“Sometimes you have to wait for a chance to show this to the rest of the world but at this moment I have in my opinion better options.”

Slot, speaking at his press conference this morning (Friday), also confirmed he has no new injury worries to concern himself with ahead of the visit of the Clarets, adding: “Yes, we’ve got a few injuries.
“We’ve got Giovanni Leoni out for the season, we’ve got Conor Bradley out for the season and Alexander Isak out for multiple months. But for the rest I think everyone is available.”
