Marc Guehi has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool but now looks set to leave Crystal Palace in January for a different Premier League club

Liverpool have been handed a huge Marc Guehi January transfer update. Manchester City entered the race for his signature earlier this month following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, with Pep Guardiola’s side now making a huge decision.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City have made substantial headway in the Guehi deal over the past 12 hours, with a significant proposal put forward to the England international. Oliver Glasner has since confirmed the deal is entering “its final stages” and as such Guehi will not be in their squad tomorrow.
Guehi had recently entered the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park, with Arsenal and Liverpool both keen to secure his signature as a free agent.

However, the Eagles were open to a potential January sale, something manager Oliver Glasner had made clear in his recent comments about the centre-back.
He said: “I’m not naive. If a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen. If you’re just valuing sports, everyone in the club will say Marc has to stay.
“The chairman will tell you the same. But it’s not one-dimensional. If you see the financial situation, it’s very important. If somebody comes, there will be a moment when the club says ‘now the financial issue is more important than the sports issue’.

“There will be a threshold where the club has to say it will happen – as long as Marc says ‘I want to leave’, because the final decision is always with the player.
“Everybody wants that he plays for Crystal Palace, signs a new contract and stays here forever. We have to do it and try to get the best. That’s why I’m always saying: ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different.”
Palace are holding out for £35million with that the value of the agreement they and Liverpool reached on deadline day. However, that move fell through at the eleventh hour with the Eagles unable to sign an adequate replacement.
Arne Slot was asked about transfers in his Friday press conference ahead of Liverpool taking on Burnley with his response very clear.
He said: “I think everyone is aligned about the challenges we’re facing, that’s not to say we’re are going to act but everyone is aligned with what we’re facing.”
The Liverpool boss was asked about Guehi specifically last week and after issuing a firm reply, he delved into the club’s stance on mid-season transfers.
He began: “I never talk about transfers in public, let alone talking about a transfer from another club. My answer is always the same. We don’t talk about players that are not ours.
“I am really happy with the squad we have. All the decisions made last summer and the summer before are completely aligned with me, Richard (Hughes) and the ownership. This season has shown how talented this group is and if everyone is available how good a team we can be.”
Slot continued: “There is nothing, nothing, nothing positive from players being injured but maybe if I can think about the narrative that we have spent so much money and every time I say, ‘no, we replaced and spent a little bit more than came in’, and no-one wanted to hear it.
“This club is in a very good place if everyone is available – and we are getting stronger and stronger – for the short-term future but definitely also for the mid to long-term future.”
