Dominik Szoboszlai apologised to his team-mates for his horrendous mistake in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Barnsley

Dominik Szoboszlai has apologised for his mistake that gifted Barnsley a goal in Liverpool’s FA Cup win on Monday night. The Hungarian had fired the Reds into the lead from 30 yards before Jeremie Frimpong gave the scoreline a comfortable feel in the first half.
However, Szoboszlai handed the League One outfit hope with a horrendous error in his own box as he fluffed an attempted backheel to goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, gifting former Liverpool academy youngster Adam Phillips a tap-in in front of the Kop in the process.
Late goals from substitutes Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike would seal a 4-1 victory for Arne Slot’s side to set up a fourth-round clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

But while his mistake was ultimately not costly to the overall result, Szboszlai was quick to apologise to his team-mates after the final whistle
“Sorry for the team again,” he said on TNT Sports. “I made it hard for us with an easy mistake, I would say.
“But football happens. We move on and we take the next round.”
Reds boss Slot and his opposite number Conor Hourihane were both unimpressed with Szoboszlai for his complacent error.
“I don’t think you should do that in an FA Cup game or League Cup, a friendly game or even a training session,” Slot said. “I have my opinion about that that I am definitely going to share with him.”
Meanwhile, Hourihane said: “I’m a little bit disappointed with their player if I’m honest. I thought he was a little bit disrespectful.
“I don’t think he does that against Chelsea or Arsenal or in a Champions League game. Delighted for Adam, but disrespectful from their player.”
Szoboszlai also prompted a reaction from Manchester City star Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian was watching the game at home and took to Snapchat to tease his former Red Bull Salzburg team-mate.
But rather than mock the Hungarian for his mistake, Haaland instead took aim at Szoboszlai’s muted goal celebration after his wonder strike opened the scoring.
“Domi what a goal,” he wrote alongside a picture of Szoboszlai on his TV screen. “Smile a bit”.
