Liverpool boss Arne Slot has hinted at the club’s plans for the January transfer window
Liverpool are just over a week into the January transfer window, yet the club continues to keep their plans under wraps. Many supporters had anticipated that the club would address the current deficiencies in both attack and defence this winter, but this has not yet materialised.
The Reds’ reluctance to act in the market so far could be attributed to the substantial expenditure they made in the summer on players such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. However, one transfer that didn’t materialise in the summer was a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
Liverpool had agreed a £35million deal for Guehi on deadline day in September, only for Crystal Palace to withdraw at the eleventh hour. It’s understood that Liverpool maintain an interest in the England international and are among several clubs preparing a proposal for the player when his contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of the season.

However, today’s Liverpool news sees Arne Slot outlining the club’s strategy for the winter window, while Palace manager Oliver Glasner sets out the conditions for Guehi’s departure from the club.
Slot makes transfer window claim
Slot has stated that he is “really happy” with his squad and suggested that Liverpool may not pursue Palace’s Guehi in the current transfer window.
“I never talk about transfers in public, let alone talking about a transfer from another club,” the Reds manager said on Wednesday, prior to Liverpool’s encounter with Arsenal on Thursday evening. “My answer is always the same. We don’t talk about players that are not ours.
“I am really happy with the squad we have. All the decisions made last summer and the summer before are completely aligned with me, Richard (Hughes) and the ownership. This season has shown how talented this group is and if everyone is available how good a team we can be.”
Slot continued: “There is nothing, nothing, nothing positive from players being injured but maybe if I can think about the narrative that we have spent so much money and every time I say, ‘no, we replaced and spent a little bit more than came in’, and no-one wanted to hear it.
“This club is in a very good place if everyone is available – and we are getting stronger and stronger – for the short-term future but definitely also for the mid to long-term future.”

Marc Guehi terms revealed
Palace manager Oliver Glasner has acknowledged that Guehi might be offloaded this month for the appropriate fee. The Eagles chief revealed that should a substantial bid arrive for his treasured centre-half, then the defender will depart, despite Guehi being available without a transfer fee this summer.
The Palace boss also disclosed that Manchester City have set their sights on acquiring Guehi’s services. City appear poised to secure Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo ahead of numerous rival Premier League sides, with Liverpool reportedly amongst those vying for his signature.
“Everybody wants that he plays for Crystal Palace, signs a new contract and stays here for ever,” Glasner said of Guehi.
He continued: “On the other side, there’s the situation that the contract ends in the summer, and if somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says: ‘Now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue.’ We have to do it and try to get the best. That’s why I’m always saying: ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different.
“There will be a threshold where the club has to say (sell) … If the player says: ‘I want to leave’ and the money is above the threshold, it will happen. I’m not so naïve not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen.”
Guehi is anticipated to attract bids from European giants, with Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid amongst the clubs linked with a move. Liverpool presently rely on Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as their sole available senior centre-back partnership, with Joe Gomez and Geovani Leoni sidelined through injury.
