England manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka wanted to stay with the national team. He added that it made no sense to keep them as they were not fully fit, and it was just a friendly match.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media ahead of the Japan clash, Tuchel said that it was risky to keep them and give them minutes in the match. He added that they were in discomfort, and the media team decided to send them back.<\/p>\n

If it was the last game of the season we would have kept them, but in this moment of the season it did not make sense. The risk for making it was way too big. They were both clearly in discomfort when we did the medical assessment. It made absolutely no sense that they stayed.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n <\/template><\/p>\n Tuchel added that he wants all players to do well for their clubs in the business end of the season. He wants them to be in fine form ahead of the FIFA World Cup and said:<\/p>\n “It helps them go back to clubs and perform. We want them to perform in their clubs, but it is also our last camp before America, so we want to reconnect to our principles. I\u2019m not upset or angry with the players.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n “I got the feeling that everyone was desperate to come. Some of the injured players even stayed to do their treatment, that shows they want to be around the group. No one left straight away, it\u2019s a good spirit and that\u2019s how it should be.” (via Metro<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Apart from Rice and Saka, their Arsenal teammate Noni Madueke also pulled out of the England camp this week.<\/p>\n Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke were not the only Arsenal players to make a quick return to the club from international duty. Martin Zubimendi, Piero Hincapi\u00e9 and Leandro Trossard also had discomfort and have returned to London.<\/p>\n Eberechi Eze did not join the England squad after missing the Carabao Cup due to a calf injury. He is expected to be out for a few weeks.<\/p>\n Gabriel, William Saliba, and Jurrien Timber were also out of international duty this month. The Arsenal trio pulled out soon after the Carabao Cup final, in which the center-backs played the full game, while the Dutchman was out injured.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
