The racing icon made his plea to fans of Thomas Tuchel&#8217;s side on the opening day of the tournament in North America, while also revealing he has a second team to root for this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Hamilton was born in Stevenage and has flown the flag for Great Britain throughout his glittering F1 career. However, he was granted honorary Brazilian citizenship back in 2022 and revealed ahead of last weekend&#8217;s Monaco Grand Prix that he will be backing Carlo Ancelotti&#8217;s Selecao every bit as much as Harry Kane and his teammates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Hamilton said: &#8220;For me, it&#8217;s tied with England. Honestly, Brazil has always been my favourite team. Growing up in England, I used to love watching Brazil play. I think it&#8217;s the colours, the culture, and the players always just looked the most skilled, they were so cool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;I just appreciate where they come from. Many of the players come from the streets where they play with no shoes and there&#8217;s something quite special about Brazilian culture.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Unsurprisingly, his comments triggered a considerable reaction back home. Yet, speaking during media day ahead of this weekend&#8217;s Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, just hours before the World Cup was set to kick off with co-hosts Mexico facing South Africa, Hamilton stood firmly by his support for the South American powerhouses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Asked for his World Cup predictions, he said: &#8220;I don&#8217;t have a prediction. I don&#8217;t follow it that much, that close to be honest. I will tune in every now and then. I will always keep a close eye on what England is doing. I just hope they don&#8217;t sing &#8216;It&#8217;s Coming Home&#8217; too early, because that&#8217;s what we normally do. Sing it once we&#8217;ve got it, not before. It&#8217;s a great song, but I&#8217;m looking forward to seeing the guys in yellow in Brazil. I love watching Brazil.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Hamilton has crossed the line in second place at each of his last two Grands Prix and appears to have finally hit his stride for the first time since making the switch to Ferrari. A maiden victory for the Scuderia looks to be on the horizon, though he acknowledges that prospect remains unlikely unless Mercedes endure a difficult weekend, or his squad can close the performance gap on the Silver Arrows considerably.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">For Hamilton, the latter option is firmly the preferred route. He said: &#8220;I hope that we can be there for a scenario like that, but I think we exist to win and I don&#8217;t think we exist to win by default from someone else.
