Loyalty in football has certainly plummeted as a commodity – but there are a few who’ve bucked this trend.

Today, we’ll be looking at the five longest-serving Premier League players who are still actively playing for their current clubs. Stars from teams such as Everton, Brighton and Manchester United all made the cut – can you guess who they are?

For reference, we’ll only be looking at players who have spent the longest time at one single club. For example, James Milner has more Premier League appearances than any other player, but he has only made 38 Premier League appearances for Brighton.

Luke Shaw

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1074321874" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Luke Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton when he was just 18 years old. His Old Trafford journey has been littered with injuries and bouts of poor form, but he is still going strong at the age of 30.

Shaw has made a total of 229 Premier League appearances for United, having joined the club over 11 years ago. Were it not for his unfortunate injury record, we’re sure he would have enjoyed far more starts for the Red Devils.

He has also won 34 caps for England – most notably, he scored the Three Lions’ only goal of the game in the Euro 2020 final against Italy, only for Gareth Southagte’s men to lose on penalties.

Adam Smith

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1071663064" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Adam Smith has been through thick and thin with Bournemouth. He actually first signed for the club back in 2010, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur – he would join the Cherries on a permanent basis in 2014.

He has remained with Bournemouth ever since. Now, he is their club captain, having assumed the position back in 2024.

A natural right-back, Smith can also function as a right midfielder or as a left-back. He is now 34 years of age, but his Bournemouth contract isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2027.

Solly March

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1059502002" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Another player whose career has been blighted by injuries – Solly March has been at Brighton for almost 13 years, but has only (!) made 266 league appearances during that time.

A creative attacking player, March has effectively bridged the generational gap – football has changed an awful lot since 2013, but the Eastbourne man has always been able to pose a threat.

March is now 31 years of age. His contract is due to expire in the summer – could his sensational Seagulls stint come to an end in July?

Lewis Dunk

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1071914448" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Another Brighton player – Lewis Dunk has been terrorising forwards at the Amex Stadium since the tender age of 18, all the way back in 2010.

He made his debut for the Seagulls when they were still a League One team, having played a critical role in their rise through the divisions.

A skyscraper of a defender, Dunk’s positioning, tackling and raw determination on the pitch has always been top notch.

Seamus Coleman

<smartframe-embed customer-id="0fab81ce12e48a0794275e1d82449fb1" image-id="1069594149" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 100%;"/>

Seamus Coleman leads the pack by a considerable distance – he joined Everton all the way back in 2009. For reference, Max Dowman – who scored in a Premier League game against the Toffees this season – had not even been born by that point.

Outside of a brief loan spell at Blackpool in 2010, Coleman has been with Everton ever since. In that time, the Republic of Ireland icon has made 372 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside giants.

He is now 37 years old and has only played in three league games this season. With his contract due to expire in the summer, it might be time to say goodbye to this stalwart of the Premier League.

One-club players are rare in the modern game.
