Viktor Gy\u00f6keres has been heavily criticised by fans on social media after appearing to make an outlandish excuse following Arsenal\u2019s 2-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Saturday (April 11), Mikel Arteta\u2019s side suffered their third loss in four matches, which gives Manchester City the chance to gain ground if they pick up points against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (April 12).<\/p>\n

Junior Kroupi\u2019s 10th Premier League goal of the season opened the scoring after 17 minutes, before Arsenal were awarded a penalty after Ryan Christie handled the ball in the box.<\/p>\n

In the 35th minute, Gy\u00f6keres stepped up and slammed the ball past \u0110or\u0111e Petrovi\u0107 from 12 yards to draw the Premier League leaders level.<\/p>\n

Despite many expecting the Gunners to push on and win the game, it was Andoni Iraola\u2019s Bournemouth who stunned the Emirates when Alex Scott finished past David Raya to make it 2-1 and hand the south coast club their second successive away victory at Arsenal.<\/p>\n

After the match, Arsenal head coach Arteta admitted his side were hurting.<\/p>\n

\u201c(It was) disappointing,\u201d Arteta told TNT Sports<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a big punch in the face and it\u2019s about how we react now. They are a team who haven\u2019t lost for 11 games for a reason \u2013 they did a lot right.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it\u2019s a deflection, a bad defensive action and it\u2019s a goal. That\u2019s something we have to recover from.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the second half, you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been very consistent. This can happen \u2013 this is football.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, it was Gy\u00f6keres\u2019 post-match interview with BBC Match of the Day<\/a> that got fans talking, with the forward making a rather lame excuse as to why the Gunners struggled.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re good on the counter-attacks,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have good players and made some good combinations. But we need to do better.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had some chances in the end. The pitch was a bit dry, which didn\u2019t help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very confident. We don\u2019t need to get stuck too much on what happened today. We need to look forward and be positive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans quickly shared their thoughts on social media.<\/p>\n

One said: \u201cPitch was a bit dry, he said\u2026 Bro doesn\u2019t remember that it\u2019s actually their own home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cHow many more excuses for your failures? The pitch was watered at half-time. I was there, I saw it. Basically, you should say you were beaten by a better team on the day. That\u2019s how you take a defeat with class, not excuse after excuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third commented: \u201cWow, I think a lot of Arteta\u2019s coaching time is spent rehearsing excuses. He knows they were playing at home, right\u2026?\u201d<\/p>\n

A fourth slammed: \u201cThese lot are beyond shameless\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
