The people and residents of Japan unfortunately begin the first day of 2024 with a massive earthquake.
The earthquake hit with a recorded magnitude of 7.6. It was so terrible that pavements began to crack and roads opened up; buildings shook and trees uprooted. Houses collapsed on cars and people were buried alive.
About an hour and half after the initial earthquake which hit western Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency recorded 19 aftershocks in both Western and Central Japan. As at 5pm Nigerian time, the aftershocks have increased to 60.
In addition, the shocking earthquake has augmented the tsunami threat facing the coastal lands of Japan. The government of Japan has warned its coastal residents to evacuate the area following the great tsunami that will occur soon.
It is indeed a tough welcome to the new year for the people of Japan.
