Court Of Appeal Sacks Abba Kabir Yusuf As Governor of Kano

Former Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf gets sacked by the Court of Appeal as Governor of Kano State.

The former governor of Kano State, having been sacked by the Governorship Tribunal, unfortunately appealed to the Court of Appeal and was sacked again.

The decision of the Court of Appeal is not far-fetched. The former governor contested under the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). However, his qualification was challenged as he was not a member of the party when the election was conducted. This is a breach of section 177 (2) of the Nigerian Constitution. And it is settled that anything inconsistent with the provision of the constitution is void and of no effect whatsoever.

The tribunal thus overturned his election and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former deputy governor of the state from 2018 to 2023, as the rightful Governor of Kano State.

Will he (Kabir) appeal to the Supreme Court?

Likely, but not sure.

Stay tuned for updates.
